Munnar is 128km from Kochi by road. The drive takes about 4 to 5 hours. Kera Cabs runs this trip from Kochi city or straight from Cochin airport. You can pick a sedan, an SUV or a Premium SUV.

One way or the 2 day round trip

Most guests pick one of two fares. The one way fare covers the drive up and nothing after it. The 2 day round trip keeps the car and driver with you for two days. It ends back in Kochi.

Pick the one way fare if you are staying in Munnar for several days. It also suits you if you go on to Thekkady after Munnar. Pick the round trip if you will be back in Kochi within two days. On our current rates the round trip costs only a little more than one way. That includes the drive home.

A few things to know about each:

• The round trip quote covers 256km, which is the drive up and back. Sightseeing around Munnar adds kilometres, charged at the extra km rate on the card.
• Parking is included on the round trip. On the one way fare it is paid at actuals.
• Tolls are extra on both, paid at actuals.
• On a trip of more than one day, the driver's stay is extra if we ask for it.

From Cochin airport

Cochin airport (COK) is 108km from the centre of Munnar, a little closer than Kochi city. The drive takes about 3 hours 15 minutes. Airport transfers are priced by distance to your exact hotel, so a resort outside Munnar town will quote differently.

Waiting is free for the first 45 minutes.

The road

From Kochi the road runs east and then climbs into the Western Ghats. The usual route goes through Kothamangalam and Adimali on NH 85. The last stretch after Adimali is a ghat road with many bends, and this is where the drive slows down. Expect the final hour to feel longer than the distance suggests.

When to go

The monsoon, from June to September, brings heavy rain and the odd landslide on the ghat section. October to March is the driest time, with cool mornings in Munnar. Whatever the month, leave Kochi in the morning so the climb is done in daylight.

Landing late

If your flight lands in the evening, think about a night in Kochi and a morning start. The ghat road is slow in the dark. On the round trip, a pickup between 10pm and 6am adds a night driving allowance, shown on the quote. Book at least 60 minutes before pickup.
